Video – Liverpool towers refuse to fall…

Sunday morning implosion fails to shift Seaforth blocks.

Crowds gathered in the Seaforth area of Liverpool yesterday to witness the explosive demolition of the Churchill House and Montgomery House residential tower blocks.

At the appointed time, the signal was given, the air was ripped by the sound of explosive charges going off, dust emerged from the base of the building and then…nothing.

Both towers failed to fall as planned although one of them would fall under its own weight, and without casualties, minutes later.

Demolition crews are on site this morning to bring down the second tower in a controlled manner.

The explosives contractor on this contract is thought to be Precision Demolition Co (PDC), the company that suffered an equally disappointing outcome on the Harworth Pit Tower just a few weeks ago.
