Video – Haiti’s presidential palace demolished…

Sean Penn’s charity gets to work.

It’s two and a half years since an earthquake ravaged the island of Haiti, killing almost a quarter of a million of its inhabitants, and rendering many more homeless.

The relief effort has been plagued with bureaucracy and delays such that a charity foundation founded by actor Sean Penn has now taken the lead in demolishing the National Palace. Although this has been sold as major step forward – “the palace is seen as a symbol of the devastation and its rebuilding will become a symbol of reconstruction” reads the PR spiel – it appears to do very little to help the thousands still huddled in makeshift homes constructed from tarpaulin.
