C&D pivot pays dividends

Earlier this year, C&D Demolition Consultants changed its name to C&D Engineering Consultants to reflect its broader and more comprehensive service offering and its growing presence in mainstream construction.

That pivot has now paid dividends. Having worked closely with a major Turkish company to provide principal designer and health and safety services during the demolition of the North Wales Paper Mill in Shotton, C&D Engineering Consultants will be replicating that work during the construction phase with the same client.

Valued at £1.5 billion, the contract surpasses the construction of the new Everton Football Club stadium as the biggest construction project in the region.

C&D managing director Mike Kehoe says that associate director Matthew Bardgett played a pivotal role as C&D has transitioned from demolition into mainstream construction.

“Matthew’s role in C&D Engineering has been to develop the principal designer role from demolition where we are well-known, into major construction where we are less well-known.,” he says. “We are delighted to be officially appointed as the principal designer on this massive £1.5 billion project. This secures five years of work at the Shotton, North Wales plant. “

Matthew Bardgett is equally excited at this new contract and the diversification it represents. “To be awarded such a prestigious project is a great achievement,” he says. “The fact that it is less than thirty minutes from the head office is an unexpected bonus.”

That will be a welcome change for the team at C&D Engineering Consultants. Although the company is best known for its work across the UK and the Channel Islands, it opened a new Qatar office on 2022 as it focused upon projects across the Middle East.

Despite the successes in both the Middle East and now in construction, Mike Kehoe remains a committed, third-generation demolition man at heart.

“Demolition will always be at the very heart of everything we do,” Kehoe concludes. “The business may need to diverge into two separate organisational strands, as the company is currently negotiating a number of principal designer roles within the UK construction industry. However, as an organisation, C&D will continue to provide detailed and specific advice on both construction and demolition.”
