Central Demolition pulls Magnum…

Contractor lands contract to demolish Irvine leisure centre.

A contract for the demolition of the Magnum Leisure Centre was awarded to a company from Falkirk at a North Ayrshire Council meeting.

Central Demolition Limited was appointed contractors for the destruction of the Irvine leisure centre at Tuesday afternoon’s Cabinet meeting where councillors agreed on the demolition.

It was revealed that seven companies had submitted responses to win the contract for the demolition and the council evaluated them based on certain criteria. According to local newspaper reports, the contract was awarded on the evaluation criteria of 20 per cent quality and 80 per cent on price.

A budget of £550,000 was allocated to bring down the Magnum and the contract term is set for 24 weeks, however the total value of the contract awarded to Central Demolition Company is only worth £357,215.

Demolition will commence after any asbestos has been removed from the Magnum to prevent any negative impact on the surrounding environment.
