Countdown to Bertolino blast…

CDI makes final checks ahead of Sunday implosion.

The vacant Bertolino Building in Harrisburg will be imploded on Sunday morning to make way for a 219-space parking lot.

The Pennsylvania Higher Education Assistance Agency bought that property in September to provide more parking for its 2,500 employees who work in its North Seventh Street headquarters.

The former office building will be imploded around 7 am (local time) on Sunday. North Seventh Street from Clinton to Herr street will be closed to traffic for a half hour before and a half hour after the event, said PHEAA spokesman Keith New.

The contractor, Controlled Demolition Inc., has notified any business or residence in what it has identified as the “exclusion zone” to remain in doors and at least six feet away from windows or to evacuate the area while the implosion is performed. New said PHEAA also plans to provide notice as well.
