Video – Falcon Court felled…

14 storey block imploded as part of multi-million regeneration.

A derelict tower block was demolished in a dramatic controlled explosion yesterday.

The 14-storey Falcon Court block of flats was built in the mid 1970s and was brought crashing to the ground today as part of a multi-million pound regeneration project.

More than 3,500 metres of detonation tubing was also used for the blast.

Project managers said the block ruptured then imploded into itself and came to rest within a few metres of its initial footprint.

The redevelopment of the Tamworth Estate in Trafford is part of a wider Old Trafford regeneration masterplan with Trafford Housing Trust, Trafford council and the Homes and Communities Agency.

The demolition was the fourth tower block to be razed to the ground, but the only one to make use of explosives.
