Historical ruins damaged in stadium demolition…

Demolition uncovers then damages historical structure.

A historical structure was discovered during the demolition of Beşiktaş’s İnönü Stadium but was seriously damaged by the heavy duty construction machines.

Addressing the issue, the İstanbul Archaeology Museum authorities said: “The demolition must stop immediately because demolishing historical artifacts is against the law and is a crime. The demolition should not have been started in the first place because it was known that there would be historical ruins as the stadium is located in a historical neighborhood in Beşiktaş.”

Authorities also noted: “During the demolition of the stadium, historical artifacts have been discovered and we had commissioned an archaeologist to do an examination in the construction area. The archaeologist released a report and it was proven that there were ruins of a historical structure but yesterday we received phone notification about the ruins and when we went to the site, we saw all the historical structures had already been demolished by the heavy duty construction machines. We took the pictures of the demolished area.”
