German building collapse leaves operator dead and buried beneath debris.
We are receiving reports that an excavator operator has been killed in a building collapse in Germany. The incident happened this morning at the Helios construction site when a 15 metre high part of the building collapsed, falling onto the Caterpillar excavator (pictured). The excavator operator was killed.
According to the police, the accident happened at 09.20 local time. The victim is a 51-year-old from Duisburg. He was freed from the vehicle, but died shortly afterwards still at the accident scene.
The accident site has been closed for investigation purposes.
