Burton landmark faces the axe…

Brewery reveals its plans for tower demolition

A beer giant has outlined its demolition plans on one site of its Burton brewery, which includes tearing down one of the town’s landmarks.

Molson Coors is planning to pull down ‘redundant’ buildings on its Burton north site, off Station Street, as it clears the ground for its £75 million regeneration of the town. As well as the old maltings tower, which will be remembered for housing the Bass clock at its summit, the firm is planning to demolish the bottling plant, the maltings office and the distinctive steel vessels and tanks.

The formal plans for the demolition have now been submitted to East Staffordshire Borough Council.

The demolition work will be completed in phases to minimise the disruption to the brewery, before the site is cleared of rubble offering a clean slate for redevelopment.
