CERA loses patience over Clarendon delays…

Tenders to go out next week on 17-storey bock, despite dispute.

Tenders to demolish the earthquake-hit Clarendon Tower will go out next week, despite a dispute between authorities and the owner.

In a briefing today, Canterbury Earthquake Recovery Authority (Cera) demolition manager Warwick Isaacs said he was keen to proceed with demolition of the 17-storey building after months of delays.

The demolition tender would make it clear the job might not proceed, but he hoped the building owners and insurers would come to the party.

Clarendon Tower, which is on the corner Worcester St and Oxford Tce, has been one of the most controversial quake-damaged buildings. Initially, the building owners wanted to save the building, but in June Cera ordered its demolition.

The owners then submitted two demolition plans, both of which Cera rejected.
