Demolition fatality at jinxed site…

UK demolition worker becomes the third to die at Merseyside plant.

James Dennis Kay of Andrew Connolly Demolition was killed on Saturday during an accident at the Sonae Industria factory on Merseyside. Kay – known as Dennis – is the third person to have died at the plant, notorious for the death in December for two young workers who fell into machinery. That accident, together with a fire at the site, led to calls for the factory to be closed and to questions being raised in the House of Commons.

A post mortem on Mr Kay has reportedly proved inconclusive, and details of how the accident occurred have yet to be issued.

Andrew Connolly, managing director of Andrew Connolly Demolition which Mr Kay was working for at the site, said: “Unfortunately, we can confirm that there has been a fatality of one of our construction workers whilst we were undertaking demolition work at Sonae Industria’s plant in Kirkby yesterday.

“We are extremely saddened by this tragic incident and our deepest sympathies are with his family. A full investigation is now under way to establish exactly what happened in the segregated area of the plant that was under our control.”
