S&R Corp. begins the Demolition of the Old Sakonnet River Bridge.

The Old Sakonnet River Bridge in Rhode Island opened in 1956 as a replacement for the Stone Bridge, about a mile to the south.

The original bridge was retired in 2012 when the new bridge was built. The Old Sakonnet River Bridge spans 664 metres and comprises 6.2 million pounds of structural steel and 2,700 cubic yards of concrete. At least it did.

Work is underway to demolish the old bridge. S&R Corp is carrying out the painstaking work, while our favourite US demolition videographer Stephen SetteDucati is capturing the action.
