Collard keeps it in the family…

Robert Collard acquires father’s business.

Robert Collard with M Collard lorry_lowresR Collard Ltd, the Hampshire based demolition, waste management and haulage company, today announced the acquisition of Reading-based M Collard Waste Management Ltd. The company will assimilate the business, assets and goodwill into its existing operations. The long-established family-run business will inevitably make a good fit with existing business at R Collard sharing the ethos that has underpinned the success of both companies.

M Collard Waste Management Ltd has been trading for 40 years in Berkshire and Surrey. Owned by Mick Collard, father of R Collard Ltd’s Managing Director, Robert Collard, the company is well known in the area and has a significant customer loyalty base. Coming under the R Collard Ltd umbrella will not only ensure continuity of service but also a greater range of products. The strategic acquisition expands R Collard’s business and increases its geographical scope to include Hampshire, Berkshire and Surrey while at the same time protecting and creating jobs through investment in the local economy.

R Collard Ltd will now operate 5 licenced Waste Transfer Stations in Eversley, Aldershot, Bramshill, Farnham and Reading. It increases its number of skips to 2,000 and HGV fleet to 98, all of which will be co-ordinated from R Collard’s Customer Contact Centre in Eversley. The development of a new office block in Eversley, which is scheduled for completion at the end of 2016, will accommodate staff relocating from M Collard.

R Collard has long held the philosophy that investment into skips and lorries must be maintained in order to be able to service its core business of managing demolition waste. This current acquisition not only increases the geographical footprint of the business and continues the strategy of sustained investment in equipment and workforce.

“This step is of enormous significance to me”, says Robert Collard, “I started my career working for my father and at the age of 23 set up on my own. We have always been hugely respectful of each other’s businesses and being based so near to each other has complimented and built on the Collard name to create a significant brand that customers can trust to give an efficient and reliable service. This move allows me to expand into my father’s territory with his blessing. The expansion suits my company’s long term strategy to be the major regional waste management company for the M3/M4 corridor and this addition to our business gives us the expanded trading base we were looking for.”

R Collard Limited began trading in 1995 so this year is celebrating its 21st anniversary. In 2015 the company managed over half a million tonnes of waste material and is driven by a ‘zero to landfill’ commitment. It has evolved to become one of the UK’s best-known and most respected demolition, waste management and remediation companies.
