AR Demolition extinguishes fire station…

Melton Mowbray fire station gone in eight hours.

Melton Mowbray’s fire station has been flattened to make way for its replacement. Melton’s fire house, which has stood in Nottingham Road since the 1920s, was razed to the ground by AR Demolition in about eight hours earlier this week.

Demolition workers moved in so work can begin on the £1.4 million redevelopment of the site. The “dated” station will be replaced with a modern home for the town’s one full-time crew and team of retained firefighters.

Along with their engines, they will be housed in temporary accommodation and garages on the site until the work is completed, which is expected to be by April.

Features such as the station sign and an Art Deco metal staircase will be retained and included in the new station.
