First NZ post-quake implosion gets green light…

Radio Network building set to be first to be felled by controlled explosion.

In the immediate aftermath of the devastating earthquake that turned Christchurch into a demolition zone, explosive demolition methods were shunned amid fears that they could potentially trigger another aftershock.

But with demolition now in an advanced stage, that is all set to change. And soon.

The 14-storey Radio Network building in Christchurch is set to be the first major structure in the city to be demolished by implosion.

The building is set to be demolished on August 5, after the Canterbury Earthquake Recovery Authority (Cera) gave it the go-ahead.
