Demolition company seeks $4.2 million in damages over unpaid bills.

It has been said – not entirely in jest – that the busiest people in the Noth American demolition business are the lawyers. And so it comes as no real surprise to learn that the company kicked off the contract to demolish a Nova Scotia school is now seeking reparation to the tune of $4.2 million over alleged unpaid bills.

John Morrissey, head of Demolition Resources Ltd., is accusing the province of mismanagement that led to a three-and-a-half-month delay in the project.

“Based on project mismanagement on behalf of the project, we’re suing for monies that are owed to us,” said Morrissey yesterday.

Of the $4.2 million Morrissey is suing for, he said $500,000 is related to unpaid invoices and completed work. An additional $1.1 million is the balance of DRL’s contract with the province. The remaining $2.6 million, according to Morrissey, relates to cost overruns and damages.
